Frequently Asked Questions
1. What jobs are available?
Please go to www.jobnetworkcenter.com , click on Employment, click on Overseas Employment in the drop down box, the jobs currently available will be in green. You may review each job listed by clicking on the job title.
You may also call and speak with one of The Job Network, Inc. recruiters and they will assist you with your questions.
2. How do I know I’m qualified for a position overseas?
Most jobs require either 1 year, 3 years or 5 years experience depending upon training, experience, work history and whether or not you have served in a branch of the military. Once you have reviewed the job title and you have determined that you have the appropriate qualifications, skills and abilities you can determine your suitability for the job.
3. How do I apply for a job listed?
Go to The Job Network, Inc. website, place your cursor over the Employment heading, and drop down to “How to Apply”.
4. What does it cost to process my application?
- Candidates applying for overseas employment will not be charged for a background, processing or resume fee.
- You must obtain your own passport quickly and we suggest using The Visa Center who can process the passport request within 3 days. Keep your receipts as you may be able to be reimbursed for the cost of your passport (the reimbursement is paid out approximately two to four weeks after you arrive at the overseas processing center in Houston, TX and the appropriate documents have been submitted); The cost of a new, first time passport is approximately $190.00 or less;
- If you need your resume updated or re-written we charge a nominal fee for this service. An update with only the most recent employment added, is $35.00. If you need a complete resume, the fee is $75.00. This service is optional, and you may certainly have someone else write your resume or write one yourself;
3. How should I write my resume?
Your resume must reflect a very detailed, in depth description of the daily activities performed in a job similar to or the same as the one for which you are applying. For an example of how to write a resume that will highlight your experience please review the resume sample on our website. Place your cursor over Employment, drop down to Resume Sample and use the resume headings we suggest. The Contractor is most interested in how long you have worked and where, but more importantly they are extremely interested in your daily work activities and you must list as many as you can that will provide them with a clear view of your experience. We are always available to assist you.
6. How long will it take to process my application?
Your application processing depends upon several factors. One factor is how much detail you have placed in your resume. If you do not provide enough detail in your daily duties, the Contractor will return it to us and advise us we need to obtain more information from you, or worse yet, they will reject your application as unqualified for the position. Another factor in the application process is whether or not there is a job available in your field. Jobs open and close constantly depending upon who is in country working, and who leaves the job to return to the U.S. at the end of their tour. The most important factor as to how long it will take to process your application is whether or not you already have obtained your passport. A passport is required. Once you have been approved for the job, you will only have from 3 to 5 days to obtain a passport. The fastest way to do this is to utilize a Passport Agent with a company like The Visa Center. There is a link on our webpage where you can read more about the passport process by utilizing The Visa Center. You may use any passport agent you prefer, but please ask how long the process is before applying through them. The Contractor will first utilize those who already have passports at the time of initial application. A new contract has opened as of October 1, 2005 and more applicants than ever before are being accepted for deployment to the medical processing center in Houston, TX.
7. What is the complete process?
- Once you complete or send us the list of forms, we scan them, and email them to the Contractor for approval or disapproval;
- If approved, you will forward the remaining signed, original copies to us at the Phoenix office, or the office closest to where you live. Once you are approved, we are on a 3 to 5 day timeline to get the completed, full packet to the Contractor;
- Upon approval, you will be given the contract that you will sign and initial the bottom of EVERY page, including the last page. This must be sent to us as quickly as possible. Once all the paperwork is in, and forwarded to the Contractor, they will be in contact with you to set flight dates to Houston, TX where you will take your physical, be given some equipment to take with you to your overseas assignment and receive all necessary inoculations.
If you still have questions, you can forward them to us either via telephone, email or fax and we will assist you with them. We will continue to be your point of contact until you are contacted by the Contractor who will set up a flight date. Do not call them trying to get an earlier flight date or hiring date since they maintain an "as needed" hiring basis. If you call too often, you make a nuisance of yourself and that can result in your being barred from hire altogether. You will be called when they need you, on their timeline, and not on yours. Should complaints about nuisance calls in reference to our applicants come to the attention of The Job Network, Inc., we will bar applicants from being hired. The Contractor deals with several hundred applicants each day and you must respect their right to hire as they see fit and according to their schedule.
The Contractor wants to know which Saturday you would like to leave for Houston, so in the question of "when are you available", please keep that in mind. Applicants leave for Houston on Saturdays so you must be available and able to be contacted by telephone once you provide the Contractor with an availability date. If you are not available, the Contractor will move on to the next, qualified applicant. They will be filling the positions as quickly as possible.
8. How will I be paid?
All administrative questions such as pay, benefits, and other human resources questions will be answered once you are in Houston, TX. We do not know the answers to these questions as our job is to recruit, process and prepare potential applicants for working overseas.
9. Can a non-U.S. citizen be hired to work overseas?
The answer to this question is "yes", but there are conditions. A non-U.S. citizen must have the following in addition to the required work experience to work on this contract in Iraq:
A. The applicant MUST have a valid, up to date, Green Card / Work Permit and normally have been employed in the United States, or served in one of the branches of the U.S. Military;
B. The applicant MUST have a valid, signed passport of their home country. A military ID card is not appropriate travel document when the applicant is no longer in the military.
